Who We Are
The Anchorage is a Christ Centered ministry reliant on Biblical principles to guide in therapy and life as a whole. The Anchorage is a 96-bed facility split between two campuses. Our Women’s Campus, located at 2908 Gilionville Road, houses 40 residents, while our Men’s Campus, located 162 Hampton Lane, houses 56 residents. We believe that a relationship with Jesus Christ is foundational to successfully overcoming alcohol and drug dependencies. Without Devine Intervention and influence of the Holy Spirit, our program has no power to be an agent of change.
For over 70 years, God has provided resources to keep The Anchorage operating. It is His faithful support through churches, individuals, foundations, and civic organizations that has met our needs.
With the exception of a $40 admission fee, the first phase of our program is free of charge. This allows us to disciple the most destitute and broken. Addicts that ordinarily could not afford this level of treatment, can have access to a life changing program.
The Anchorage is a 501C(3) incorporated in the State of Georgia. We accept no Federal or State Funds.
Our Story
The Anchorage began in 1953 when the Hudson Malone Sunday School Class of the First United Methodist Church of Albany faced the challenge of trying to aid a person with alcoholism. After several unsuccessful attempts, the group located a Christ-based alcohol rehab center, Bethel Colony of Mercy, in Lenoir, North Carolina. The man entered the facility where he received spiritual counseling. The teaching opened his eyes to his need for Christ to replace his need for alcohol.
The Sunday school class soon recognized the need for such a program in Southwest Georgia and established The Anchorage Inc. in Albany. In 1987, the program was expanded to accommodate dependencies on all substances. In July of 2026, years of praying, dreaming and planning, became a reality with the welcoming of our first ladies into our newly constructed Women’s facility.
The impact of our program has grown beyond our roots in Southwest Georgia. We have served tens of thousands, and our alumni now span across the entire United States. The Anchorage, Inc. is a vital ministry which needs your prayers and financial contributions to continue to provide a place of refuge and recovery for those caught in the bondage of addiction. To God be the Glory!
